To arrange an alternative date for an assessment please contact Mrs Wendy Spencer on 01509 638280. We are happy to arrange entrance assessments throughout the year.
We are able to offer a small number of assisted scholarship places to pupils joining us in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 in September 2018. These will take the form of a certain reduction in fees.
A decision to offer an assisted scholarship will be based on the combined information gathered from assessment scores, means testing family income and an interview with the pupil.
If you would like to apply for this financial assistance, in the first instance you should express your interest to our Registrar, Mrs Wendy Spencer ([email protected]) when you book your daughter on to her assessment day. These take place on Thursday 11 January for entry into Year 7 and Friday 12 January for entry into Years 8 – 10. Mrs Spencer will also send you some documentation to complete and return to enable your application to be means tested.
The assessment day comprises two parts, one is a computer adaptive baseline test which covers maths, verbal and non-verbal reasoning followed by a spelling and reading test.
Your daughter will then be invited back for an informal interview with either Dr Murphy, Headmaster or Miss Grace Davies, Senior Deputy Head on Saturday 27 January 2018. During the day your daughter will also complete an essay based task.
You will be notified of the final outcome of your application for an assisted scholarship by the end of February.
St Catherine’s Scholarship
By definition assisted scholarships rest in part on a proven need for financial assistance. You are however welcome to enter your daughter for a St Catherine’s Scholarship. There is no fee remission attached to these scholarships but all our St Catherine’s Scholars are automatically admitted to our St Catherine’s Society under the guidance of our Enrichment Coordinator, Mr Ritchie Gale.
For more information or to register your interest please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Spencer via email to [email protected] or telephone her on 01509 638280.
General Assessment Information
Pre-Preparatory (4-7 years)
We welcome boys and girls into our Pre-Preparatory department (Reception class to Year 2). After parents have visited the department with their child we invite the child to return to spend a taster morning or afternoon with us before registration.
Preparatory School (7-11 years)
Boys and girls considering joining Years 3 to 6 of Our Lady’s Convent School share a taster day with us. On successfully completing that we invite them to spend a second day with us; on this day various assessments will be carried out. Before a place can be offered a report from the current school is required to ensure we can be confident of providing for the needs of each individual child. Female Year 6 pupils of Our Lady’s Convent School are not required to sit the Senior School Entrance Assessment.
Senior School (11-18)
For admission to the Senior School entrance assessments are taken during the Spring term for all pupils wishing to enter the School in the following September. In addition to the assessment a personal interview may be conducted. Girls wishing to take up places at any other times are required to submit a current report when attending an interview and will be assessed or required to sit an assessment. Entry into the Sixth Form is dependent upon ability and attitude together with a minimum of five GCSE passes at Grade C, Grade 4, or higher, a Headteacher’s report and personal interview. Some subjects may require higher grades for entry to A level.
