This week the winners of the Junior Maths Challenge were announced. Lots of children took part in the challenge, which meant lots of children were going home and thinking about maths! Congratulations to all who took part, some questions were very difficult but lots of students gave the challenge a go. Below are our three top scorers!

This is now the second year that OLCS has held the title!

OLCS Begin the Vantis Corporate Challenge!
Five VI Formers attended the launch party for the Vantis Corporate Challenge this week at the Porsche Centre Leicester. Our team were presented their £50.00 starting point to raise as much money as possible over the next three months. The evening also had a few words from Rainbows Children’s Hospice and LOROS who are so grateful for all the money raised in the challenge. If you see stalls, games and events taking place over the next few months, please do get involved!
Fiddler on the Roof
Another stunning success by the Performing Arts Department
Tumble Tots in the Nursery!
Wednesday 24th February was a special day in the Early Years and Infant Departments at OLCS. All the daddies, grandpas and male carers were invited to join the children and staff in a “Tumble Tots” session, run by one of the parents. It was a fun packed afternoon, with everyone taking an active part and having a great time. Tumble Tots is an activity session develop children's physical skills of agility, balance, co-ordination and climbing, through the use of brightly coloured Tumble Tots equipment.
Fathers often miss out on their children’s early school experiences and OLCS staff thought this was an ideal opportunity to participate. As you can see from the photos the activity was enjoyable for all. |

Little Kickers at OLCS
In the same week, the Nursery and Infants also took part in a taster session for ‘Little Kickers’ football training for girls and boys. The session was lead by FA qualified coaches and encouraged the children to take part. The session was great fun and an opportunity to promote valuable concepts such as teamwork, listening and sharing.
The combination of managed exercise and the children having so much fun has led to plans to offer “Little Kickers” training on a regular basis, subject to demand. Watch this space for more news on Little Kickers training at OLCS.

OLCS wins the RoaD Quiz
OLCS made it to the finals of the Leicestershire Road Safety Quiz which were held at Quorn Hall. The team competed against Loughborough CofE and Swithland Primary Schools. There were a selection of rounds on different road safety topics - some were incredibly difficult, but the girls had worked really hard and answered really well. It was very exciting as the scores were really close. In the end we won by 2 points, on the final question!
We're very proud of our quiz team, not only for winning but for representing our school so well.

Tudor Day
Our Year 5’s went back in time last week and experienced a day in the life of the Tudors. At Donington le Heath Manor House Museum, the pupils learnt about the lives of rich and poor people in Tudor times by taking part in activities such as writing with quill pens, preparing pomander bags in the Tudor Kitchen and dressing up in Tudor costume. A highlight of the day was being able to join one of the museum characters in some fun dances as enjoyed by children in Tudor times. The trip was a great success with all the children really getting into the spirit and enjoying the experience.
