We welcome boys and girls from four years old into our Reception class. Our staff work with you to ensure your son or daughter’s move to Loughborough Amherst School is smooth and happy. Children who have previously attended the Loughborough Nursery will have already experienced weekly afternoon transition sessions and will recognise some of our Preparatory teachers who also teach in the Pioneers (pre-school) room.
Pupils have access to a creative room for 2D and 3D art projects, an ICT suite with interactive whiteboard, a free-play room for exploring communications in work and home settings and a well-stocked library with age appropriate books for all levels of readers.
In Years 1 and 2 our boys and girls broadly follow the National Curriculum; annual NFER tests together with ongoing assessment facilitate careful monitoring of their progress. All children in Years 1 and 2 have specialist teaching in French, PE and ICT.
In Years 3 to 6 our curriculum continues to be broad and balanced, covering all national requirements and offering a variety of additional learning and life enhancing experiences and visits.
Pupils are taught some of their lessons by subject specialists from the Senior and Sixth Form departments; for science, cooking and drama the older students use the facilities of the Senior School. This enables them to develop their skills to a higher level and prepares them for the next stage of their education.
Music is a very important element in the life of our School, with an orchestra, singing groups and individual tuition for many instruments. We believe education should be given with an holistic approach; all children are encouraged to participate in the rich choice of extra-curricular activities on offer.
Throughout the School there are opportunities for additional educational support, including dyslexia tuition, if it is deemed necessary. We are fortunate in having on-site trained dyslexia tutors with whom pupils may receive tuition with minimum disruption to the curriculum.
As part of our School family your son or daughter will be integrated into whole-School activities, have the opportunity to assume positions of responsibility and represent their House in competitions and sporting events. He or she will be challenged yet cared for and will be prepared for the next stage of his or her education; Year 6 automatically progress to our Senior School ready to focus on GCSEs and beyond.
Hear from two of our Prep pupils about what they enjoy about coming to School every day.
