Sixth Form

Sixth Form at Our Lady’s Convent School is the end of your daughter’s formal school education and the culmination of a journey of discovery, enlightenment, challenge and fulfilment.  During her progress through the School and eventually Sixth Form, your daughter will become a capable young lady with a well-balanced education; prepared for university and the next stage of her life. She will leave us capable and confident with humility and compassion.

Two of our Sixth Form girls share with you their thoughts on their education at Our Lady’s Convent School.

We welcome external and international students and encourage involvement in taster days and other events to smooth the transition and prepare you and your daughter for life in our Sixth Form.

We offer 28 A Level subjects and are able to offer small teaching groups ensuring considerable academic success. In addition, your daughter will be encouraged to achieve in other areas such as CCF (combined cadet force), community service, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, Young Enterprise and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).

Being a member of our Sixth Form combines privileges with responsibilities. There is an expectation your daughter will influence younger members of the School family in a positive and constructive manner, she may choose to get involved in running the Pastoral Committee or act as a School Mother to a Year 7.

Sixth Formers have important roles to play in the running of their House and helping to organise charity and sporting events.  At Christmas the Year 12s entertain local Senior Citizens to an annual party whilst Year 13 entertain the whole Senior School with the Sixth Form Review.

Curriculum

All Sixth Form students participate in either sporting activities or additional studies in ICT. All subjects offer extended learning opportunities such as residentials and visits and there are opportunities to visit university open days and undertake work experience.

Throughout the School there are opportunities for additional educational support, including dyslexia tuition, if it is deemed necessary. We are fortunate in having on-site trained dyslexia tutors with whom students may receive tuition with minimum disruption to the curriculum.

Entrance requirements

Your daughter’s entrance into our Sixth Form is dependent on achieving five or more GCSE subjects at grade C or grade 4, or above but it is also at the discretion of the Headmaster.  We would be delighted to discuss with you how we can help your daughter excel academically and personally within our Sixth Form.
