It is our aim that all students have a positive and enjoyable experience of Physical Education and sport.
Within our PE curriculum we deliver a broad and balanced range of activities. Focusing on a mixture of games and individual activities, where appropriate we encourage and support the use of new technologies to further develop students. We have specific praise and reward schemes and we use these to motivate and engage students to develop and enhance their learning.
Students work in similar ability-set groups in their games lessons and mixed ability groups in their PE lessons. Senior School students enjoy a wide variety of sports including netball, hockey, basketball, badminton, football, rounders, tennis, cricket, dance, gymnastics, fitness, trampolining, table tennis, cheerleading and athletics, dependent on their age. In the Preparatory School students have an experience of some of the activities listed above, including swimming.
Sporting opportunities are also an important part of the overall House programme with many hotly contested House matches played each term.
Loughborough Amherst School is a Grade II listed site and we utilise the facilities we have to their full potential, we also hire out local high standard venues within a very short walk of the school. There are also plans in hand for a girls’ gymnasium on Burton Walks which we will share with Loughborough High School.
We offer students the opportunity to opt to take Physical Education at GCSE and A Level and these courses have proved to be popular with the students.
